Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

We know this may come as a disappointment to many, but we did not attend the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.  Yes, this was our first Thanksgiving in New York City, and we still did not go to this highly popular parade... we're sorry! BUT, in our defense, we did go down to central park west the night before the parade and look at the inflatables that would be flown in the parade on Thanksgiving.  I think half of New York thought this would also be fun, because there were thousands of people! If you watched the parade on TV at all, you probably recognize some of these inflatables. We thought this would be a very fun tradition for our family.
Buzz Lightyear and Kermit the Frog were my favorite.
The Macy's Stars...  (and the hand of Sponge Bob Squarepants)

Kermit checking out the shoe of the balloon ahead of him in line...

Two people that live in New York, but looked very much like tourists (especially with the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic coat).

Horton Hears a Who? (<----Is that how you spell "Horton"?)
So, there you have it, we are not total losers, we did make a few "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" Memories.  Oh, yeah, Mayor Bloomberg and his entourage walked past us while were looking at the dog inflatable.  He didn't say hi to us or anything, we just thought it was cool we happen to go at the same time as the mayor and his family (and security guards).    We actually went to Philadelphia for Thanksgiving, so we weren't even in the city to see the parade; maybe next year.

More Fall Pictures

These are some pictures from just across the bridge in New Jersey looking over to Manhattan.  The leaves were so pretty at this time of year.  These were taken about two or three weeks ago, which was probably the peak time to see the leaves.  The last picture is of the Columbia University Medical Center Campus, where we are located.  It looks like a pretty campus from this angle.  Emphasis on "this angle."  We will get some pictures of the main campus which is a very beautiful campus.  Or you could just go watch Ghostbusters, Spiderman 2 or other movies in which the campus is displayed.

Our First Visitors!

My family came and stayed with us for a week.  It was a lot of fun and really good to see them.  Unfortunately, I had to work most of the time and Derek had school and a test to study for.  But we spent as much time as possible with them.  They spent most of the day sightseeing and the evenings and weekend we spent seeing more sights or relaxing at home.

This is the Broadway show that we got to see; Mary Poppins.  It was very good!  Good music, good acting, creative stage design; I definitely recommend it!

Yes, we definitely look like lost tourists here!

Here we are eating out in a little restaurant in Chinatown.  Mmmm... Vietnamese food.  Now that we have lived here for a few months, we know some of the worthwhile things to do and see.  So hopefully we were decent tour guides.  We sure enjoyed having them!
